Tiny Shop Village

INVIGORATING A COMMUNITY
I love a good community story and this is one. The completion of the 'Tiny Shops' village in Stanmore Road has been marked by the opening and blessing of the final tiny building and a celebration by locals from the Linwood community. The Christchurch City Council
has supported Greening the Rubble
and community development organisation Te Whare Roimata
to repurpose a vacant area on the main road for use by the local community. This story captures the passion of those involved in the project which saw close collaboration between a number of donor groups, local volunteers and the city council. For generations, the ancestral rock art of the Arowhenua people has been owned by others, with the land and limestone caves held in private ownership as part of a Gould family farm. Now after more than 170 years, Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua has purchased back the land and full access and ownership of their ancient taonga.
