The DJI Osmo Handheld Gimbal Cam
Sometimes great stuff happens right outside your own front door or in this case across the road in the park. Serendipity at its best, I'd just purchased the new DJI Osmo gimbal camera while over the way a group of lads were practising their slack lining skills. Slack lining? I'd never heard of it either but take a look at the video I've posted and you get the idea.
At any other time the skills being shown on that thin piece of webbing would have been joy enough but with the Osmo it took a unique visual opportunity to a whole new level. I'm not technical by nature, so don't ask me to wax lyrical about 3 x axis stabilisation or a large M4/3 sensor, thats just stuff I've read in the brochure. All I know is i don't normally feel genuinely amazed, but with this little camera I am. For someone like me to capture pictures of this quality which are steady and contain dynamic motion, well as I said I'm amazed.
I've shown this video too several people and their reaction has been to go out, pretty much immediately, and buy one and I'm not surprised...
drones come back to earth in handheld form. Nice. Impressed. This doesn't tell the story for you, but by golly it can add some sparkle and shine.

There are important lessons here for those watching New Zealand's own homegrown platforms which are taxpayer supported through NZ on Air. Whether freeview or payview, what are we actually seeing and why? what are we actually paying for and why? Are we simply paying millions to subsidise commercially fragile kiwi media platforms or are we paying to ensure a future for kiwi made factual content? These questions are particularly relevant as the government considers new funding models for both film and television.
